Luther Hotel Fund

After almost two years of uncertainty and the looming threat of demolition, the Luther Hotel has been saved thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Palacios Preservation Association! On August 19th, 2024, the Luther Hotel was sold to preservationist and philanthropist J. P. Bryan, who is committed to rehabilitating the historic landmark and ensuring that this treasured piece of coastal Texas history remains standing strong for generations to come.

The Luther Hotel in Palacios was named to our Most Endangered Places List in 2022 after a private foundation’s plans to purchase the property and demolish the 121-year old structure were made known. Local advocates quickly took action and formed the Palacios Preservation Association (PPA) to fight against the hotel’s destruction. The Association’s grassroots advocacy efforts, along with the help of many dedicated volunteers, community allies, and a pro bono legal team, have been tremendously successful.

Preservation Texas is accepting donations to the Luther Hotel Fund as the fiscal sponsor for the PPA.

*All gifts to this fund will be distributed to the PPA according to the fiscal sponsorship agreement.
